So you had a kickass weekend? Drank till you dropped dead on the floor and drunk dialed your ex? Now Monday morning is killing you and you regret the weekend and the headache is being a bitch? Hangover is something that reminds you that you had a weekend that was worth the headache. But here is the difficult part, attending early morning classes hung-over or going to the office for an important presentation or meeting and getting annoyed by every second question being asked to you. Yes, all these are very common. Now obviously this article doesn’t go for the ones who drink anything but alcohol. But that doesn’t mean you can’t read it.
Here I am giving you a few tricks which I guess many of you already follow, but still I am going to share it with all of you. 7 tricks of getting rid of that hangover from the already existing morning (Monday mostly) blues.
I love to ridicule the notion of being a Bengali, something that people around me find odd since I myself am an Bengali; or atleast am supposed to be.
The classic dhoti, the greasy hair, the owl-like spectacles, the wooden cane and the untidy moustache. How we "eat" everything that can be eaten or drunk(read:Jol Khabo). How we add the syllable of "au/o" at places in sentence when people least expect us to. How we are supposed to the stingiest folks on a demographic line. How our love for the mishti transcends understanding of anything tangible as such. How piscine cuisines are all that live upto our standards of food. How we are the ones to host the Royal Bengal Tiger of Sunderbans. How we think we are the masters of the world, and what not!
Whilst I will tell you that THAT is what "we " do, but alas it is only fair that I tell you that THAT is what "they " do since I am one of the pseudo-bongs of the modern age who are totally detached of this great culture. And while on most days that does not bother me much, somehow today out of pure of chaos and randomness I feel sorry for myself since I have missed out on the mystique of the culture that my family reveres so deeply.
Books have always been one of my travel buddies, or my boredom guides. Starting from those Enid Blyton stories, Agatha Christie’s thrillers, then Sydney Sheldon’s never-ending dark secrets and dreams and nightmares and not to forget Harry Potter series! They all were an important part of us, fall in love with fairytales, mysteries, romance and action. I still would prefer using a bookmark or folding the upper corner of the page of a book rather than using a kindle. Somehow the essence is not the same.
This particular post includes few of the people who shared their view and have built up pretty good reviews about some of the best and the worst books they have read till date. Give it a read and maybe it will convince you enough to give it a thought about it.
I am no raging patriot by any means. I believe in a certain degree of rationale on the basis of which I nonchalantly mock certain ideas and practices such as religion; or sometimes ignore simple ethos so as how respect for a certain entity(person or otherwise) in our society is down to its longevity instead of its more tangible and concrete merits.
Patriotism is, to most, the innate need to blindly support all arguments made in their country's name. Criticism against the motherland is almost criminal-like to who believe in this ideology. They will tell you since you can remember a thing that to revere your nation's culture and past and to serve its glory.
They will tell you how we won our Independence. They will tell you about the Gandhis and Nehrus. But they won't tell you about Subhash Chandra Bose or Sardar Vallabhai Patel in the same vein of things when it comes to the struggle against the British. These men never did what they did for the sake of credit. But if you are dishing out credit all these years later on a regular basis then how about we do so after an informed and thorough factual background check on these fellows as well instead of conveniently falling back repeatedly on the ravishing tales of the heroes of the former INC?
Being a third culture kid isn't easy. One would rather strive towards bringing world peace than trying to resolve problems in a TCK’s life. Third culture kids are those who spend significant years of their lives outside their parent’s culture. The kids who have parents with transferable jobs are the ones who are screwed the most. You know what is much worse than being a TCK? Being an Indian TCK! That’s right folks, if you are an Indian TCK and due to the inevitable misfortune in your life, which is going back to India, even Lord Krishna wouldn't be able to save your ass, but maybe I can.
I am an Indian TCK and have somehow come to terms with the challenges I faced when returning back to my native place. During my 19 years of existence, I have visited more countries than I have visited states in India. Heck, my first language wasn't even Hindi. I must say that its not easy to cope with the ordeal one may have to suffer, but that doesn't mean that things don’t get easy. I thus present to you, top 5 ways to completely and utterly shed off your ABCD (American Born Confused Desi) image, and bask yourselves into the desi-ness of your Indian brethren.
With the recent trends in portrayals of one world to another; Or rather what the West™ would like us, and every other commune with a potential for power, to learn: If we set aside all the bias, all the subliminal influencing and ethical monopoly in the media, there is a transition that is underway. A transition resulting in a total reversal of the original agenda.
What agenda? The one which would keep the general public as close to ‘values’ ingrained in them as possible. To maintain ‘harmony’ and prevent rebellion, questioning and instability – even if it is only fair that one must do something untoward in certain positions. Global human behavior is gaining limelight once again. People are realizing what they truly are. We are looking inside. It is almost a massive revolution but we are comfortable basking in ignorance. Behaviors that are uniform across the world are being teased-out to reveal the truly universal human nature, manifestations of our basest raw instinct, and instinctive reactions without any cultural or social bias.
