- Eddard Stark to Robert Baratheon
By Amal Prashanth Charles“The winters are hard, but the Starks will endure. We always have.” - Eddard Stark to Robert Baratheon YES! That’s right. Having already looked into House Targaryen and their epic history, we now move away from the fire and look into the icy north at House Stark. The Starks are one of the oldest and noblest of Westerosi houses. They are descendants of the First Men and ruled over the north of Westeros from their seat at Winterfell, as the King in the North. Upon Aegon’s conquest of Westeros , Torrhen Stark the then Lord of Winterfell bent the Knee to Aegon Targaryen and bought the north under the rule of the Iron throne. Hereafter the Starks became known as the Wardens of the North. The words of House Stark are “Winter is Coming “and the Starks are one of the few houses whose words are more of a warning than a boast or taunt.

By Amal Prashanth Charles The ten weeks of the year during which ‘Game of Thrones’ airs seem to be the slowest weeks of the year for me, just because the wait between each episode seems to go on forever. But those moments from when the theme of GOT starts playing till when the credits start rolling, I am absolutely gripped to the screen , and I am sure most of you are too. This is because for those 55 or so minutes, we are transported to a world so different, complex and mind-blowingly stunning that we wouldn’t dare take our eyes off. This world created by George R.R Martin is so meticulously detailed and amazingly brought to life by HBO. But being a TV show they do have many restrictions as to how much of the story they can fit into an episode, and hence a lot of this amazing world is lost for people who watch on TV. One of those losses is the history of Westeros.

Once upon a time not so long ago, but rather around 2 weeks, I was flying back to Delhi, my hometown in all its glory, I was waiting for authentic mom-made Aloo Paranthas and was actually looking forward to unlimited high-speed internet. Something, most people at my college crave . The last thing that I was expecting to happen was right round the corner in the form of this tall and beautiful lady of around 25-27 years who sat next to me in the flight. |
