In actuality, equality can have several different meanings. Coexistence, fairness and indiscrimination are a couple of concepts which can be derived from equality. What I personally believe is that ‘equality’ is an abstract idea which may be desired by some but unconsciously resented by many.
Aristotle once defined equality as “same treatment of similar persons”. But not all are same, we all are different. Sure we as humans have the same skeleton structure and are presented with brains to think, but not all are alike. And while equality is a leisure for many, those who have that ideal gift to their disposal at times hope for its riddance.
None of us would mind if we were prioritized over someone else. An economic class passenger would be delighted to be bumped up to first class but not all first class passengers would adjust getting knocked down to economic (lets say money does get refunded). It’s the social hierarchy which comes into play here. It definitely depends on the nature of people however, many privileged are used to being treated differently. It’s safe to say that equality at convenience is what we ultimately hope for.
Going on to my next example, I would just like to say that I am not a sexist, not even remotely.
I myself have been brought up in a completely different environment than many people and I know that equality is just a burdening and hypocritical term thrown around. If one looks through the lenses of practicality and comes out of their naïve bubble, they know that there is no such thing as equality. Depressing as it may sound, those who claim to deliver equality are lying, those who wish for equality are day-dreamers and those who believe that they are treated equally are just delusional.
