Well, sums it up, doesn't it?
Brazil vs Chile

  • What do you do when you are the better team and still go out?

  • The match was rather dull, I may have dozed off 2-3 times.
  • It started off with Brazil running about and hurrying Chile into making mistakes, the midfield of Gustavo and Fernandinho was doing well. Yeah, Paulinho, keep sitting on the bench.

  • It could be seen that Chile were a bit nervous.

  • 12’ , Hulk goes down in the box, 50-50, penalty not given, Howard Webb makes the right call. Did not see that one coming!

  • 18’ Goooooooooooolaaaaaaazo! Neymar’s corner is flicked towards the far post, and it is David Luiz. Actually it is a Jara own goal, Luiz may have got a touch or not. Well, the panel for dubious goals would sort it out later.

  • Brazil haven’t lost a competitive match at home in 39 years. LOL. I hope Chile didn’t know that.

  • Chile finally show what they are made of and push Brazil back. In other news, they are literally clattering Neymar all over the field.

  • 32’ Goooooooooooollllaaaaaaaaaaazo! Chile! Sanchez! You know that boy in football coaching who couldn’t return the ball to you after you take a throw in, Hulk is that kid. He misses his pass, Vargas to Sanchez, who is winning hearts all over with his goal. Arsenal and Liverpool fans rejoice since he may join one of them.

  • 42’ Dani Alves thunderbolt saved by Bravo. Barcelona connection there!

  • Pass…Pass…Slack defending…Chance….Stupid shots….Yawn!....Half Time.

  • The second half was a bore except a couple of saves by either keeper.

  • AND THIS! DISALLOWED GOAL! Hulk chests down Marcelo’s cross and scores. Everyone’s first reaction is that it is not a handball, well it eventually was, but for Howard Webb to spot it from his field of vision was astounding, thank god the linesman was of help this time. He spotted it too. Howard Webb was on refereeing drugs.

  • The rest of the half including the extra time is all about Brazil failing to do anything, Chile wasting time and hoping they win in a penalty shootout. Premature much? By the way, we saw a lot of Sanchez thigh throughout the match because you know he likes to roll his shorts up for ‘some’ reason!

  • But..but..but! 120’ Pinilla hits the bar ! Brazil are almost out. So unlucky. The crossbar is given the highest Brazilian civil honour later.

  • PENALTY SHOOT-OUTS! The first one in this World Cup. The tension is at its peak. If I had to favour someone, it would be Julio Cesar, he may be only a decent keeper but he is nimble and that helps in saving penalties.

  • I’ll make this easier to read for the shootout.

  • Brazil ( David Luiz ) scores. 1-0.

  • Cesar saves from Pinilla. Brazil 1-0.

  • Willian misses . Brazil 1-0.

  • Alexis Sanchez of all people misses, well Cesar saves. Both dismal penalties from Chile. Brazil 1-0.

  • Marcelo scores. Brazil 2-0.

  • Aranguiz with probably one of the best penalties ever. He just blasted it. Cesar doesn’t move. Brazil 2-1.

  • Hulk is not having a good day. His penalty is saved.

  • Diaz scores for Chille. Brazil 2-2 Chile.

  • Neymar dances, shimmy, scores! Brazil 3-2.

  • Jara hits the post. Brazil are through.

  • Full time Score : Brazil 4-3 Chile (After pen.)

The Best Penalty

Keeper doesn’t move, just flinches when the ball hits the net. Incredible.

What Twitter had to say?

One of the funnier tweets doing the rounds. Surely Sanchez really wanted this after all the leg/thigh show.

Sometimes having big biceps gets you a handball, doesn’t it Hulk?

This is what it means to Big Phil and a crying Neymar.

This is a Chile Journalist celebrating Chile’s goal with her special bra.
Brazil go through in dramatic fashion but Chile return with their heads held high. They were brilliant until today where they were still probably the better team. This is football, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Brazil are not going to keep winning like this specially since they meet Colombia after this. You can only ride your luck till a point. Their stars are still young and their frontline is abysmal with Jo and Fred. The match was boring except the nerve wracking penalty shootout. Kudos to Chile for a brilliant tournament and good luck to Brazil, because they are going to need it. This World Cup has been a treat to watch and we are sure it is only going to get better. Hopefully other minnows can give a better account of themselves too because who doesn’t love a underdog!
