by Sajed Ahmed India has always been criticized for underperforming in away test tours. But the first two tests of the 2014 India’s tour of England shows that all of that has just changed. We had a captain who was being criticized for being too defensive in away tours, a very fragile batting line-up and a very ordinary bowling line-up. With an inexperienced side, MSD has managed to do something that had only been done once before by Kapil Dev in 1986, a test victory at Lord’s.

Date: 30th June, 2014 So our very own Café Rio lads Sunil Chhetri and Mikael Silvestre decided to play some fun football as a change from their daily routine of staying up all night carrying out the match analysis/discussions, and of course, introducing Silvestre to the Indian turf and feel of football. Since the studio is located in Mumbai, they looked up for the best futsal ground in the city to play and chill at with their I-league mates. “KickForAll” in the posh area of Hiranandani, with the ground isolated, located at a height and overlooking the massive skyscrapers, provides the most thrilling experience of a 5-a-side football match, and our lads couldn’t have found a better place in this otherwise crowded city. by Sajed Ahmed We’ve been invited to each and every single ODI cricket WC. We’ve won two ODI WCs and one T20 WC. With every passing generation our cricketers keep getting better and better. So what makes us good at this sport? Here's what we think.

Pointers of the World Cup matches Uruguay vs England
by Sajed Ahmed Unfortunately for them, the Proteas retain the title of chokers that they have had for 14 years straight, in this edition of the T20 world cup. I haven’t quite been able to figure out why, A curse probably? Or maybe growing pressure to lose the chokers tag? Either way the South Africans have another year to figure out what goes wrong every World Cup Semi-Final as the 50 Over WC is scheduled for next year. As far as India is concerned, we don’t have to worry for the next 15 years. The future of Indian cricket is in very safe hands. This game was yet another proof that Indians can handle anything (except non-Asian venues).
by Sajed Ahmed India is a very vast country geographically and culturally. We have 28 states, 16 major languages, and a population of 1.3 billion. When India plays Pakistan we set all our differences aside and cheer for India. It’s safe to say that India cannot be more united than when India plays Pakistan. Although this match wasn’t as exciting as expected, it had its own share of moments.
by Sajed Ahmed I said it right. Murali Vijay has greatly contributed to Team India’s performance in South Africa. I’m not talking about his 97 in the first innings of the second test. I’m talking about every innings of his in this other than the last one. Understanding this requires a look into the dynamics of the South African side, their history and of course some statistics.
The South African team has been quite old school with their approach to test cricket even in the modern era. Their strategy: Brute force, and it has worked out very well for them. Number 1 test team, it doesn’t get any better than that. If you take a look at the top wicket takers of South Africa of all time you would see that all of them are fast bowlers. At the top we have Shaun Pollock with a tally of 395 wickets, followed by Makhaya Ntini with 390, Dale Steyn with 347, my personal favorite Allan Donald with 330 and Jacques Kallis with 292(as of November 2013). South Africa’s most successful spinner is Paul Adams at 134 wickets to his name. This piece of statistic gives an insight into the modus operandi of the South African attack right from the early 90’s. The South Africans have a simple yet effective strategy to get the job done and that is two front line fast bowlers clocking at around 140 kmph, 2 medium fast bowlers and sometimes when playing in Asia, a spinner. |
