A lot of designers, developers and Microsoft fans are developing their own concepts and mock-ups for Windows 9. After going through many of these concepts on the Internet, here are some interesting ones. All these designers have tried to tackle few of the problems that exists on Windows 8 right now like
Here is a list of Windows 9 concepts worth noticing.
- Jarring difference in Legacy Desktop and Modern UI
- No start menu
- Old Look of the legacy desktop
- Modern UI for mouse and keyboard and many more problems
Here is a list of Windows 9 concepts worth noticing.
i. Windows 8.2 or 9 by Andrew Ambrosino

The features of this concept are:
This concept is very practical and looks good. It really brings Modern UI to the desktop and helps the keyboard and mouse users as well.
- Metro Apps on the Desktop
- Device Flexibility
- Tackling Desktop and Metro disjoint
- Better 'Play To' functionality.

ii. Windows 9 By Jay Machalani

Jay Machalani really loves windows and has done a lot of work in this concept to fix issues with Windows 8. He has given practical in-depth solutions, and has demonstrated them in videos as well. He wants to create a coherent store for both Legacy Windows and Windows store. He wants to use the Metro design and live tiles more deeply and make it a companywide design language. He wants Windows 8 to work well on both Touch and Traditional Computers.
This concept is really good and has a practical start menu with metro design UI. It is an immediate fix and does not seem like a version for Windows 9, so call this a Windows 8.2 concept.

iii. Windows 9 By Jerry Jappinen

This concept is a whole new way of thinking Windows Desktop that we use and love. It really shows the modernization of the desktop space, specially the task bar. The panoramic design language makes it suitable for Windows 8. This is one of those concepts I really wish Microsoft Implements. The interface is super clean and minimalistic and makes it suitable for both touch and mice.

This is an incredible mock-up of Windows desktop gone Metro-like. This what all the Microsoft fans have been waiting for. ‘Metro-fying’ the entire legacy desktop. This is by far the best way to design Windows Desktop in my opinion. If Microsoft really delivers this or something close to this, it would be incredible. This is the best and most practical concept I have seen so far. So cheers to Sputnik8!
