Personal Review: 9.5/10
Artyom returns for another adventure in the Metro system underneath Moscow, the only place that escaped the radiation following a catastrophic nuclear war. The series based on the Metro 2033 & Metro 2034 Novels are written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, (The books are pretty awesome BTW) the sequel to the game Metro 2033 follows the story of the yet to be released Metro 2035 and takes us to a whole slew of new locations and environments with a new roster of bigger and badder enemies to kill and blow up. The story keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire journey. And 4A games’s implementation of its amazing new engine lets you completely immerse yourself into the world. You feel like a part of it. A truly surreal experience.

It starts off after you launch a missile strike against the mysterious creatures with psychic powers called the dark ones in the previous game, but it seems the missile didn’t do the trick. So you set off to find and kill the remaining dark one. Your quest takes you through fascist Reich and communist red army controlled stations, which are also fighting among themselves for the control of the metro system. You meet old friends and make new ones along the ride. You traverse dark tunnels, ruined Moscow streets and buildings, underground caves and lakes, muddy marshes, frozen rivers, storms. On trains , trolleys. Boats, buggies etc. with a myriad of rugged mashed up guns which make you feel powerful but not too overpowered. There are loads to shoot at both human and non-human alike. You can play stealthy by unscrewing bulbs and extinguishing gas lamps to stay hidden in the darkness. The story is like riding an awesome rollercoaster ride. This dark and gloomy adventure fills you with moments of dread and shock and brings visions from the past back to life. The horror of the supernatural elements of the story is something that will keep you glued to the screen. This is a game meant to be played in darkness. The game comes with a option to change the spoken language to Russian, this adds much more emotion and dramatic feel to the characters.
The world stunning and breathtaking scenes transport you to its world. The lighting effects are truly next generation, casting accurate shadows and illuminating rooms with stunning levels of detail. Considering the small Ukrainian development team allegedly had to smuggle development kits across borders and resort to mobile generators when the national power grid failed over the winter, it's incredible that they have managed to create a game that looks better than some of this year's multi-million dollar blockbusters. The sound is truly beautiful and the guns sound exactly like you can imagine with guns with parts which are hastily scrunched together. The Game isn’t perfect though the AI is pretty stupid at times and can’t notice you standing right next to it sometimes and not to mention there are a few visual and technical bugs.
Metro: Last Light is a unique and bold post-apocalyptic FPS adventure and a great setting and presentation and the story transports you to its grim reality. I truly had a blast playing this game. I give it a 9.5/10. It’s a must play just like its predecessor Metro 2033.
