The bowling department of the Aussies troubled the Pommies with their bounce and swing. The highest score by England was 353 in the second innings of the third test thanks to a ton by Ben Stokes. The other scores made by England would not have been sufficient even for a One Day game. In ten innings’ England have amassed a score of less than 200 on six occasions. The batsmen of England lacked the temperament and composure to play test cricket. By their approach to batting it seemed like they were a bit rusty with their foot work, hence late in to their shots and on many occasions beaten for pace. The top 5 wicket takers of this Ashes comprised of Mitchell Johnson (37), Ryan Harris (22), Nathan Lyon (19), Peter Siddle (16) and the lone brit, Stuart Broad (21). The batting stats had a whole new story to tell. The top 7 run scorers were Australian. This shows the failure of England as a team.
With the ODI series just adding to their woes, England cricket have a lot of introspection to be done. The English cricket scene is going to be very chaotic and agitated for the next few months. Meanwhile, the Australians have a lot to be happy about after regaining the Ashes. Australian cricket seems very stable now with the team transitioning from test to ODI cricket with very little problems. Hopefully, the English will have better fortunes at home in the next Ashes and England has its revenge. As the old saying goes, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings. Long live test cricket.
