I don't know why but for some reason I cannot take the IPL seriously. It just seems like a big budget TV series to me. I mean, think of the variety of characters that the IPL has. It has the once upon a time legends, now retired and have taken up something more civil. Kinda like Capt. Roy Montgomery from Castle whose part is being played by Shoaib Akthar. Then it has the good looking protagonists like Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell who pull off an Ian Somerhalder every now and then. For humour IPL has the comedians whose sense of humour is refreshing, something like the Pritchetts from Modern Family. Danny Morrison and gang do good justice to the roles they were offered. That being said, we also have to put up with Sidhu and his creepy one liners. There should be an auction for the hosts of Extraa Innings as well. That way there is at least a possibility that we may not have to hear Sidhu babble about cabbages and ostriches.
Bad photoshop but the perfect picture! Srini mama.
Every TV series needs a conspiracy. Something that just doesn't add up, something that makes you wonder what people were thinking. Like when Srini mama thought it would be a good deal to buy Nehra for 2 crores. That's like spending half your wealth on a 1975 vintage Lancia Stratos that does nothing but leak fuel and break down every time you try to start it. But then again, the mastermind always has a hidden agenda. Probably its a part of a very elaborately made plan by the Rajinikanth of cricket, our very own Srini mama. You know what would be the battle of the century? Gambhir VS Nehra. Think about it, Gambhir can't score and Nehra can't contain. That's the kind of stuff that IPL brings to the world. Would Gambhir's defiance be able to prevail over Nehra's much acclaimed philanthropy? Find out in s7e21.
Maxwell. Hero for this edition or is there a twist in the tale?
What's a good TV series without a poster boy. Glenn Maxwell has really worked a lot to bag that role. He makes the bowlers look like little amateurs who are just learning the trade. I bet after the CSK vs KXIP game, Ashwin would have cried to his mommy about how embarrassed he was because of Maxwell. But giving too much of screen presence to a single character would make it a Charlie Chaplin flick. I hope the script writers have something new for the second half of the 7th season. And no, I'm not suggesting that the IPL is fixed.
Vijay Mallya's performance has been superb in this edition of IPL.
Vijay Mallya is one character who is being given a lot of strong and emotional scenes in the season 7. He has pulled off this role with ease demonstrating how versatile he can get. However, Priety Zinta has finally been given a chance to flaunt her dimples more often this season. But something tells me that someone else is gonna have the last laugh. Any guesses? Who else other than Srini mama. Quite the show stealer he is with the awesome tricks under his sleeve. Whistle Podu all the way. Before I go, one last thing. If you ever feel that the game is getting a little boring like SRH's innings against RR, switch over from the English commentary to the Hindi commentary. This piece of advice my friend, is a life changer. Thank me later.
