They say that “money can’t buy happiness”. But money can, indeed, buy you a channel with truckload of YouTube videos a stone-throw away from hitting three million subscribers.
Matty B is a pompous eleven year old little dude who mainly uploads covers of artists of the likes of Eminem, OutKast and Gym Class Heroes. He ummmm... raps. While his covers are fairly good mainly attributed to the string of pretty little pubescent ladies and their potent hold over singing and his raps aren’t bad as well considering his age but what bothers me is the amount of flack that this young man is receiving over the internet because “rich kids with fathers loaded with cash can do any crap to get popular”.
Now I’m not outwardly pointing out that Matty B isn’t talented because let’s face it, he is. But the ferocity with which his channel receives his extremely well made music videos and the subsequent number of views has got me extremely tensed for the future of our music industry.
I mean, if this little kid is the rapping little counterpart of Justin Bieber, then we’re done for.
His original compositions are pretty catastrophic and according to me, a pre-teen little boy barely five ft tall chasing girls in sand-boxes and chanting “That girl is mine” seems a wee bit odd. I think Matty B is a very good rapper and a really talented kid but exposing a young mind to the macabre of internet might not have been an all-too-wise decision.
Needless to say, he did get Vanilla Ice (Yes, the nifty mind behind “Ice Ice Baby”) to feature in his own cover of the song. Vanilla Ice (Rob Van Winkle) must’ve earned himself a LOT of dough to have just stupidly gyrated in the background while young Matty stole his lines from right under his nose.

It wouldn’t come as an almighty shock to me if this kid turns out to be the next rapping sensation stealing the hearts of young girls because of his attractive looks or his remarkable style.
It is just something about young folks acting far too mature for their handling that stirs an indelible irritation amongst us old, talentless hags. I won’t shy away from the fact that I spent nearly two hours of my precious time (note sarcasm) cruising through his videos.
What can I say?
As Alexia Lafata rightly put,
“The kid’s got moxie.”

(This one is my personal favourite)
PS: Do check out his channel MattyBRaps and let us know how you feel and/or on a scale of 1 to 10, how much screwed up are we if this kid is the face of our future music industry?
