People don’t hustle anymore, they thrift these days. Yes, Macklemore has brought back thrift shopping into fashion. This article isn’t about thriftin, its about the new Elvis. The journey from an amateur drunk Professor Macklemore to an independent un-signed rapper; Macklemore, has seen its ups and downs. The changing of names in order to prove his talent is just the surface of what Macklemore has gone through. If you want to dig up about his past, might as well just check Wikipedia, I will be focusing on Macklemore’s future. Is he just a one hit wonder? Well hopefully not, he’s got some real potential. Macklemore and his co-produce Ryan Lewis have taken the music world with a thunder, influencing their listeners with their entertaining music and videos.
Macklemore has not only established himself as an independent singer but also made it very clear that his music deserves to be a hit. Charting top on billboard for ‘Thrift Shop’ and still climbing the ladders of success of his hit album ‘The Heist’, seems to me as if there is no stopping for this conscious rapper. A weird term isn’t it? The Conscious Rapper? People have started designating Macklemore as the conscious rapper who has been sober for the past couple of years, abstaining from liquor and substances. Like many other celebrities, Macklemore too had a substance abuse problem but has now managed to stay away from syrups, alcohol and recreational drugs. Macklemore claims that the substances had always hindered his work, preventing him from succeeding in creating good music. His abstinence has not only brought out the best of him but has also started questioning the use of mind altering substances in the music industry, especially challenging those who proudly publicize their affiliations with drugs.
