For all you sci-fi fans out there, this summer should have been delightfully suspenseful. ‘Under The Dome’, a new show presented by CBS is based upon a novel by Stephen King. Needless to comment on King’s writing and his thrilling work, one can only wonder how good the show might be. There have been numerous television shows based upon novels, while most of them do get twisted in screenplay writing, some remain on par with the quality of the books. I prefer watching shows over movies, so it’s very obvious that I am a regular tv series fan regardless of the genre. While many pilot episodes have been extremely boring, ‘Under the Dome’ seems to have caught the viewer’s attention quite firmly. A story of a small town which gets trapped inside an invisible dome like barrier, UTD portrays its immediate effects on the lives of the people. Many dynamic characters are introduced along with tension within the authorities and struggle for survival. Will the show remain to be as mysterious as it has come off in the initial episodes? Spoiler alert till 6th episode, after that the show just gets a little too epic to spoil …

What would you do if trapped inside an invisible transparent barrier with no way out? Even tough when there is no possible way of communication with the outside world besides sign language and playing charades. The shows start off with Barbie (a man’s name, really?) killing someone in a struggle, that certain someone turns out to be Julia Shumway’s husband. Viewers had already sensed some sort of connection between Barbie and Julia and at the end of the 6th episode, it’s pretty evident. Wait till Julia finds out that Barbie was the one who killed her husband, but screw that, lets zoom out a bit and look at the bigger picture here. Chester’s Mill, this small town is not only secluded from the rest of the world but also alienated by outside humans. There were speculations that the Government was running some sort of tests and the dome is its by-product however the recent attempt of launching a nuclear warhead on the dome proves that the Govt. is as much clueless as the people inside. Some naïve delusional viewers may still ask after the 6th episode that “how is Chester’s Mill screwed now? It rained inside the dome!”. Well lets look at some facts here:
· Big Jim is power monger councilmen who, at this point is going softer by each episode. Softer in a bad way actually, gradually losing his grip over the situation.
· Junior is a psycho kid who kidnapped his ex-girlfriend when the dome closed in on them, locked her up in a basement. Oh wait, not to mention that he is Big Jim’s son and an appointed policeman (facepalm).
· Barbie is an army veteran who has major anger management issues at times of chaos, its always chaotic in Chester’s Mill btw.
· Public is going berserk, all sense of ethics and morals at this point have almost diminished.
· Last but not the least, the two; Joe and Norrie have messed up seizures and say weirdass things like “pink stars are falling”… they are super freaky. People are jumping to conclusions that this dome has a conscience which directly communicates with these two teens.
This show has a lot to offer; action, drama and romance. Other than that, why wouldn't one wanna watch this show? If you are fans of shows like ‘Lost’, then UTD can be your cup of tea as well.
