I keep on reading articles on how dating your best friend is the best thing ever, but lately I have been thinking quite a bit on this line and my reply is, ITS THE WORST THING YOU CAN EVER DO. Of course you are wondering, why is it a bad idea? Dating your bestie makes perfect sense. Well unfortunately for you, that is the biggest screw up, it just seems too perfect and remember the famous proverb, ‘ If it’s too good to be true ,it probably is‘.
Well there are many reasons why dating your close friend is an insane concept and the main one being, it almost never works out. You guys are already in a relationship which is called ‘FRIENDSHIP’. Why would you want to destroy something so beautiful? Everyone has dated their best friend once in their life, and do you remember what happened at the end? Let me tell you exactly what happened, the relationship ENDED and so did your friendship. And if some of you folks are bragging about how you guys are still friends, think a little more, are you as close now as you were before you dated? I don’t think so. And that proves my point.
Another reason why it is such a disaster is because now you have to go through theroutine of finding a new best friend all over again. Don’t try saying things like my boyfriend is my best friend because the fact remains that you usually bitch about your best friend to you better half and about your better half to your best friend but considering both are the same, you are now in a rut. Well you brought it up on yourself didn’t you? Now go out and get yourself a new best friend to help you vent out.
Lastly, how can you not think about how uncomfortable dating your bestie would be? There is a term called ‘SECRETS’ and you know what is the funny thing about secrets, almost everyone has them, whether it is as small as you flirting with another guy when you are already in a relationship or something a little big like the fact that you cheated on your ex and no one knows about it but your best friend. But now that you are dating your ‘major amigo’, and you hope it is good that they know your deepest darkest secrets, it can turn out to be extremely disastrous.
Guys, I know love is beautiful, it’s waterfalls and moonlight but trust me it is not worth losing a friend. It’s better to be friends with a person all your life than believing that you are in love with them and then having to say goodbye to each other because of course it didn't work out. And trust me; it absolutely sucks to lose a friend.
So get out, meet a random stranger who is drooling hot and hope that you fall in love with them, but the next time the thought of making your bestie your ‘baby’ comes to your head, slap yourself and think about how awful the idea of losing them sounds. And for all those out there who are dating their best friends are it’s going amazingly well, guys I am happy for you, and hope things stay the same, as you are a part of a very small crowd.
