“She has got the looks to die for!” , “I swear she is loose just look at what she’s wearing!”, “That guy is so hot, you know he has a Porsche, wonder if he’s dating anyone.” ,“She is hot man! What else do you want?” Heard it all before? You must have. Welcome to the world of Dress-crimination, a world where people are judged on what they own (or in some cases “borrow”), rather than what they are, where materialism is the only religion.
Looks can be deceitful, it’s said. We all have had that share of luck to meet a hot girl / guy, who turns out to be a jerk later. No? Well good for you. But let’s give it a thought, what was is that attracted us to those jerks at the first place? We say personality, but it’s actually just looks. I’m not nuts here. Yes, personality and looks aren’t the same thing! Looks in short means appearance, the way you look, which includes all the materials that can be bought, whether it be your car, clothes, watches, jewelry, gadgets, and yeah also the gym membership you paid for. Personality on the other hand can’t be bought; it’s who you really are, the way you behave with people, the way you react to different situations, your nature.
Let’s face it, we all try to follow trends, we all want to look better, a little more thin, a little more biceps, a pointy nose, a little more height, a little more “cool” and what not. It isn’t bad to do all these things, better looks give more confidence which in a way enhances your personality. But when you start doing it not for your own satisfaction but to appease others, then you’re somewhere going wrong, you are being a victim of Dress-crimination. If you want to look better, go ahead, but if you need to look better, then STOP! If someone cares about your looks or your wallet or I don’t know, maybe… the restaurant you take him / her to, over what you really are ... think twice before continuing relationship with that person. Just imagine, if we all follow the same trend, won’t we all look alike? Do we really want that? Here is how we’ll look in future if we don’t change our mindset.

That doesn’t really mean that in attempt to look different than others you become Lady Gaga! Though I love her, as she is never afraid to experiment with fashion and doesn’t care what the world might think, but yeah all her dresses are a way to gain popularity after all. Learn to be comfortable in your own skin, and not try to imitate others. Be what you are, do what you like, what makes you happy, and not what others want you to do. It’s your life. This society of ours is fake, it will always demand you to change, criticize every single thing you do. If you start following all the stuff it says, you won’t be able to survive.
Just don’t judge a book by its cover, yes Shakespeare you’re awesome! This guy has actually spoken related to each and every topic in this whole world, right!! Okay back to the topic, as an experiment start practicing it. Be open to everyone. Don’t let people fool you by their looks. Try to understand what the person is really inside. Like someone for that person’s behavior, nature, how he / she treats you, for what he / she is inside and not the looks, and you will be surprised to know what you’ve been missing your entire life. Try it, it will be worth it!
