Once upon a time not so long ago, but rather around 2 weeks, I was flying back to Delhi, my hometown in all its glory, I was waiting for authentic mom-made Aloo Paranthas and was actually looking forward to unlimited high-speed internet. Something, most people at my college crave . The last thing that I was expecting to happen was right round the corner in the form of this tall and beautiful lady of around 25-27 years who sat next to me in the flight.
She was confused at the question cause as much time I gave her to think and answer, the more she wanted to change her previous answer. Every follow up question for her, meant she had a new viewpoint. Compiling all of it, independence meant being financially independent, otherwise she doesn’t mind being dependent on someone. Financial dependence is a no go. Rest, bring it on!
Yamini
She was pretty straight forward with her idea. Independence means that she is not being influenced in any of her decisions. She can stand by herself when no one is around. Just not financially. Leave her by herself, and voila, she evolves into ‘Independent Yamini’ something which she says she hasn’t yet achieved.
Rukmini
An independent Bengali girl. She says she knows the true meaning of independence which is difficult to explain in words but to put it simply : I am not bowed by anyone, make my decisions, buy my own Mishiti Doi. Helping someone doesn’t mean you’re dependent.
Her words “ When she’s not asking her dad for money, hee hee” Financial independence is her foremost concern and husbands and boyfriends have a mutual understanding about her independence.
Anisha
Her independence is all about life decisions. Everyone needs help but financially independence is important. For her, it depends on her, if it’s a YES, it’s a Yes otherwise no. Life choices are all about her and no one else.
Nupur
She considers herself independent right now. Her parents or her boyfriend or friends, don’t make the decisions for her right now itself and she says once she moves out of her home, she will be independent.
